1. Select the appropriate model and material matching of the mechanical seal according to the working conditions and host equipment parameters.
2. The ends and shoulders of the shaft (or shaft sleeve) for mounting the mechanical seal must be chamfered with smooth transitions on all sharp edges. Refer to the drawing below for dimensional tolerances and surface roughness requirements at the mounting position.
3. The radial runout of the equipment shaft (or shaft sleeve) shall be **<0.1 mm**, and the axial float of the rotor shall be <0.5 mm. The perpendicularity of the mating face of the stationary seal end cover (or housing) to the shaft axis shall be <0.1 mm.
4. All mounting dimensions of the seal must strictly comply with the requirements in the assembly drawing.
5. Keep the sealing area thoroughly clean during installation. Ensure the sealing faces are intact and apply a thin coat of mechanical oil to prevent impurities and dust from entering the sealing cavity.
6. Lubricate the mounting area with oil if applicable. Note: EPDM rubber must not come into contact with grease; use soap water or clean water for lubrication instead. After assembly, push the rotating assembly by hand—it must move flexibly on the shaft with proper elasticity.
7. When tightening the gland bolts for the stationary seat, apply even force to ensure the stationary face remains perpendicular to the shaft centerline.
8. Do not strike or hammer during installation to avoid damage to the friction rings and subsequent seal failure.
9. For Kaiyu series mechanical seals driven by springs (Model 120 / 155 / 1527 / GB103, etc.), select the correct spring rotation direction:
Viewing from the motor end toward the impeller end: Use a right-hand spring for clockwise shaft rotation; use a left-hand spring for counterclockwise rotation.
10. After installation, rotate the shaft by hand; the operation should be smooth with no abnormal resistance.
11. Fill the equipment with medium before operation to prevent dry friction and permanent seal failure.
12. When the medium is high/low temperature, or contains solid particles, flammable, explosive, or toxic liquid/gas, follow the API 682 standard. Implement auxiliary measures such as barrier sealing, cooling, and filtration to prevent safety incidents.
